Laura Tanner - French Horn

Laura studied Horn with Angus West (Principal Horn of Welsh National Opera) at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff and with Lindsey stoker at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where she was awarded Distinctions in Chamber Music, Professional Attachment (with Welsh National Opera) and Education Projects. From February to April 2004 Laura was on trial for the posistion of fourth Horn with Welsh National Opera. Following her graduation from the RNCM in 2005, Laura returned home to the West Country and she now divides her time between her commitments as a performer, Horn teacher and musical animateur.
Currently, Laura teaches Horn for Queen Elizabeth Hospital School, Clifton College and Bristol Arts & Music Service Horn School and is the specialist Brass tutor for Yate Music Centre Senior Wind Band. Laura works regularly around the country as a Freelance Musician and recent employers include the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (as guest lecturer in teaching skills, performer and animateur), Welsh National Opera and WNO MAX (as both performer and animateur respectively), the West of England Philharmonic Orchestra (as both performer and animateur), the Emerald Ensemble and Bath Philharmonic Orchestra.
Prior to and during her time at college Laura was the recipient of several awards and scholarships including: The David James Award for most improved player West of England Schools Symphonic Wind Band 1999, The Simon Clarkson Prize Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2002, The Wolfson Foundation Instrument Award Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2002, The Zochanis Scholarship for Post Graduate Study Royal Northern College of Music in 2002. From 2002 to 2005 Laura's studies at the Royal Northern were made possible by the generous support she received from 'The Cressy Foundation'.
