Tom Shevlin- Trumpet

Another born and bred Bristolian Trumpet playing Tom to add to the Cabot Brass collection! Tom Shevlin has a vast 20 years of Trumpet playing experience under his belt ranging from his earliest experiences with our own Tom Jones in CASO to Orchestral work with the likes of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Emerald Ensemble, Bath Philharmonia, the West of England Philharmonic Orchestra, the New English Concert Orchestra, the Regency Sinfonia and the Virtuosi of London to Opera with the Welsh National Opera (Orchestra, on, under and off-stage!), Iford Opera, Magdala Opera and Swansea City Opera.
Initially taught by Trevor Jones and Paul Denegri, Tom went on to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Andy Stone-Fewings (RSC), Jon Holland (CBSO) and David Blackadder (Natural Trumpet), where he achieved great success at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. From 2001 – 2002 Tom was a participant in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s Training Scheme. Also in 2002 Tom was a finalist in the Ludlow Philharmonic Concerto Prize Competition and in 2003 he won the Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Prize in addition to graduating with Distinction from his postgraduate diploma.

Also a dab hand with all things ancient, Tom has played baroque Trumpet with the Armonico Tributo and The Musical and Amicable Society, however the high point of his career to date has to be spending a few weeks with ‘Dirty Den’ doing Snow White in Plymouth in December 2006!
Tom currently teaches for QEH Boys School, Bristol and Bristol Arts and Music Service. He shares the groups’ passion for Music in Educational settings and has worked on Community Education and Outreach Projects with WEPO Musication, Magdala Opera Start projects, Education Group, Staffordshire Performing Arts and Stoke-on-Trent City Music School.
When he’s not practicing or partaking in other Trumpet related activity Tom’s favorite things are tea and cake, and maybe a bit more cake!
